Self-tapping screw

What is a self-tapping screw?

A self-tapping screw is a type of fastener consisting of a metal screw stud with threads along its entire length or part of it. The main feature of a self-tapping screw is its ability to firmly anchor itself in a material without the use of additional elements such as nuts or washers.

Main characteristics of self-tapping screws:

  • The thread  is full or partial, often with a sharp end for easy drilling.
  • The head can have different shapes: hexagonal, cross (PH or PZ), socket, etc., which ensures ease of tightening.
  • A notch or sharp end  helps screw the screw into the material easily; no pre-drilling is required (although there are screws with a drilling point for difficult materials).
  • The material of manufacture  is most often steel, stainless steel, brass or aluminum, depending on the purpose.

Types of self-tapping screws :

  • By purpose:  For wooden surfaces,  Metal,  For plastic,  Combined (for plasterboard, concrete, etc.).
  • By thread type: Full thread and  Partial thread.
  • By head shape: Hexagonal,  Phillips (PH, PZ),  Socket.

Where are self-tapping screws used?

  • In construction and repair (for example, fastening plasterboard, panels, wooden structures)
  • In mechanical engineering and manufacturing
  • In the household for installation of various elements
  • In electronics for fastening components (small screws)

Why choose a self-tapping screw ?

  • Easy to use – tighten by hand or with a tool
  • Securely holds materials
  • No pre-loosening or complex connections required
